History of HC-4 Black Stallions
Helicopter Combat Support Squadron FOUR was commissioned on July 1,1965. Eight years later, the squadron assumed a new mission of Helicopter Anti-submarine Warfare and was renamed HSL-30. On May 6 , 1983 the HC-4 has been re-established, and thus were born the present-day “Black Stallions.” After 24 years of service the squadron has been officially disestablished on Sept. 28 2007.
Helicopters have been a vital part our US Naval forces. With the introduction of helicopters the 101st Airborne division started deploying into battle mainly from helicopters as opposed to airplanes. An the helicopter patches are a representation of HC-4 squadron missions and deployments.
